The Arts: Coast to Coast Exhibits

It’s Monday morning and I am already thinking about the weekend.  You have to plan ahead if you are going to make the most of that valuable time, right?  So, gas up the private plane Jetsetters – there’s a lot of Covet du Jour’s to see this weekend!

First stop, The Fine Arts Museum of San Fransisco, Legion of Honor for the Pulp Fashion: The Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave exhibit.  On display are selections from 3 of  Isabelle de Borchgrave collections: Papiers a la Mode, Medicis and Mariano. The visionary creates historical costumes and dresses from paper! The show runs from Feb 5 – June 5.

The Belgian artist’s studio is marvelous!  Do you think Ms. Borchgrave offers the spaces for vacation rentals? Imagine spending a week perusing her bookshelves!

How amazing would it be to commission her to design wallpaper?

Until I have the means to commission an artist of her caliber, here are some  Isabelle de Borchgrave designs that I can bring home:

Now I am ready to head back east.  All this couture has me in the mood to revisit the First Lady's exhibit at the National Musume of American History.  If you have not had a chance to visit since the renovation, you must.  There are many wonderful displays such as Julia Child's kitchen and Dorthy's Ruby Slippers!

While you are there, make sure to check out Richard Avedon's photos of The Kennedys 50 Years Ago.   It's only open through the end of the month.

Since you are on the East Coast, head two hours south of DC to Richmond, VA.  On February 19th, the much anticipated Picasso exhibit opens.  The newly renovated Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is the only venue on the East Coast housing the seven-city international tour.

Wishing you a beautiful and creative week!

Cheers!
Elizabeth
