Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Tomorrow my family and friends are participating in the March for Babies.  Our wish is for healthy full-term pregnancies for all moms and babies.   If you would like to contribute to our March of Dimes team click here.

Wishing every mom out there, especially my mom, a very happy Mother's Day!

Cheers!

Going Green

Yesterday I declared my Irish pride and promised a collection of green items for the home. One mustn't have relatives from the Emerald Isle or be a card-carrying Rainbow Warrior to incorporate a touch o' green at home.  Go bold by hanging grasscloth wallpaper or dip your toe in the green pool by adding a pop o' color in the kitchen.  Either way you are sure to be lucky!

Luck Be A Lady

St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorite holidays.  Possibly because it's the only day of the year when red hair is admired? Perhaps it's the camaraderie shared among pasty white, freckled people and the rest of the non-pigment impaired human race?   Perchance it's the gathering of family and friends in observance of our heritage?  While all of these ideas are good and true, I simply love St. Paddy's Day because it's all about libations and merriment!

If you are unlike my family that has a bagpiper, dermatologist  and mixologist on call, here are some ways to incorporate a wee bit o' green in your life, without breaking out the light-up shamrock necklaces or "Kiss-Me I'm Irish" tee shirts.

Tomorrow, I will share some green ideas for the home.  (The color, not environmentally friendly items I'm afraid.)

Cheers!

On The Scent

Ever since Jo Malone discontinued "my" scent (honeysuckle jasmine) I've been on the hunt for a replacement.  While in Capri, I purchased a bottle of Carthusia Lady.  It's an absolutely lovely aroma, but does not suit me for daily use.  This past weekend I found my everyday scent.  It is subtle yet sexy.  Santa, add Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir to the wish list!

Christmas Covet List

My entire family is under the false assumption that I am difficult to shop for.  This very blog is a living testament to the thousands of goods I dream of.  While some items may fall under the "indulgent" category, I can assure you not everything I want is followed by multiple zeros.  The frosting on the "Christmas morning cake" would include any of the following.  Wink Wink Santa.

Wrap It Up

For me the presentation of a gift is as important as the gift itself.  Selecting paper, ribbon, etc. is similar to choosing fabric and accessories for a room - you do not have to follow the standard rules of red and green Santa wrap; use what works with your decor and represents who you are.  In doing so, the whole gift giving process is tied together and the recipient will feel the love and consideration that went into every aspect of the present.

With the Super Bowl of gift wrapping nearly upon us, I thought I would share some beautiful and festive options available.  I have not selected my signature wrap for the season, but this is certainly a great starting point.

Book Wishlist

Books are my absolute favorite item to give or receive (or buy for myself).  A hardcover is a thoughtful and personal gift that one hand-selects and can personalize with an inscription.  Additionally, books make a wonderful souvenir from travel.

Books make a home come to life.  One can gain a reasonable amount of insight into a person simply by browsing their collection; where they traveled, their interests, etc.

I could NEVER have too many books... Novels, periodicals, fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, art books, how-to books, travel guides,... the list goes on and on.  I frequent thrift stores and antique shops always on the lookout for vintage books.  You would be amazed by the selection and the deals.   Plus, I love to read used book inscriptions.  That in itself is a whole story.  And finally, I love the smell of books (and not because of Carrie Bradshaw).  The scent is intoxicating.  Perhaps it's nostalgia...

Literally, I have hundreds of books on my wishlist, but here are a few I am coveting today:

All available on Amazon.com.

A candle from the Paddywax Library Collection is the perfect compliment to a book.  The "Oscar Wilde" scent is a staple in my husband's office.  The masculine aroma is a mixture of cedarwood, thyme and basil.

Enjoy whatever you read today, whether a newspaper, a magazine, chick-lit, a classic, or my personal favorite, a children's book.

Cheers!
