Casual Friday: Super Bowl Chic

When I was dating my husband, I was “that girl” who pretended to LOVE football.  After a few months, he caught on.  Was it my sports vocabulary or insightful commentary that gave me away?  Chris jokes that there should be a comedy sports talk show staring yours truly.

Mock me all you may, but I will never say no to a tailgate.  How could I resist a party?  For me, it’s all about the planning.  It’s so tantalizing!  With two little ones, Super Bowl Sunday at maison de CDJ is pretty tame.  For fun, let’s just pretend I am hosting a little gathering.  The guys have Fantasy Football and I have Pretend Party Planning!

I know this much; the Steelers and the Packers are competing for those cocktail size rings.  (I wonder who designs them?)  Therefore, to make all my guests feel welcome the color palette will include yellow, black and green.  (I probably only know this because of that “Black and Yellow song that is playing everywhere.)

I would like to present the Covet du Jour’s for my Super Bowl Chic Fantasy Party:

I’d prepare the field (table) with a crisp white table cloth and a Grass table runner.  Then I would use small hardy white flowers like mums (which I normally do not like) to mark the yard and side lines.

Next, I would line the “field” with a few yellow and green flower arrangements in different sized black containers.   Check out the tablescapes from House Beautiful:

I’d trade the everyday serving pieces for a mixture of green, black and yellow dinnerware. (Kate Spade)

Black and white awning stripe napkins, with some show-stopping  feathered napkin rings would be perfection!  (I would just attach the feathers to solid color ribbon or fabric to make the rings) (From M&J Trimming)

Maybe some tags for everyone’s drinks to identify what team they are cheering for? (From Etsy)

Enough with the décor already! I could ramble on all day, but I need to focus on the most important part of any Super Bowl party – The Food.   Here’s what I envision the menu to include

Extra-Green Green Goddess Dip with Crudites and Pita Chips

My heart wants to continue planning the desserts, drinks and dress recommendations, but my mind tells me it's time to get back to reality.

Have a fantastically chic Super Bowl weekend!

Cheers!

Elizabeth
