Spaces: His Home Office

About a year and a half ago, we moved from DC to Richmond.  The relocation was very exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.   Like much of the country we were unable to sell our DC house for what we paid.  Attempting to make a financially sound decision, we decided to rent out the house and sell it when the market rebounds or when the kids go to college, if feasible.

With our house occupied, we headed down south, not knowing where we wanted to live and not sure how to swing a second mortgage.  That left us with one option - rent a house.  Very wise decision... it's allowed us to get the lay of the land and figure out what we really want.  I must add that we really lucked out, our house and the neighborhood are great!  So this leaves me, a home project and decor addict, stuck between a rock and a hard place.  I want to make this my home without investing to much.

My husband works form home when he is not traveling.  Shortly after the move he went out and bought himself a desk without consulting me.  I understand that it's HIS office, but I still care what it looks like.  The desk and chair are not that unfortunate, they are just blah - but I will find an inexpensive way to style the space up.  The problem is that I can't settle on a design scheme for the room.  I am using this post to basically "talk it out" with myself and see if I get anywhere...  Once I come up with something, I will share my design board.

Just a quick note - The room has great afternoon sunlight and built-ins along one wall.  I think a dark coat of paint may do wonders for the room...

Here are some interiors I would like to emulate:

Here are my husband's guidelines: don't spend too much and make it comfortable/workable.  That's totally doable and I will even aim to make the room masculine since he puts up with all my feminine decor.

The wheels are spinning...

Cheers!

  1. Give Chris a nice picture of the Redskins football stadium to set this off.
