Furnishings: Love Hate Relationship

I need to vent about something, while it's simultaneously a Covet du Jour.  I am in love with Windsor Smith's Colony Breakfront, but the $14,000 price tag is way out of my budget.  Before I continue, let's just take a minuet to admire its beauty...

Ahhhh.... That is one elegant china cupboard, agreed?  Well, I just had to figure out a way to get this piece into my home.  Since I was unable to swing that, I went with the next best option - a less expensive, similar cabinet.  Once I found a worthy alternative, I was beyond thrilled.

This Windsor Smith "Brittany Secretary" also inspired my purchase

Last October, I found the substitute cabinet for a great price at Furnitureland South.  I was told it would arrive in time for Christmas.  Imagine my excitement, especially since I was hosting Christmas.  With the holiday rapidly approaching, the anticipation was getting the better of me.  Finally, I received a call to schedule delivery - for JANUARY!  My dreams of a perfectly dressed dining room were crushed.  After a few tense conversations, I accepted defeat and scheduled the delivery for the middle of January. At least I had something to look forward to once we returned form Turks and Caicos.

A few days before the scheduled delivery date, I received a telephone call.  The cabinet arrived, but it was damaged.  Furnitureland South had to ship it back to the manufacture.  You have got to be kidding me!?!?!?! It's conceivable that I was dangling by my last nerve, right?

I have to forgive Furnitureland South, as they are not at fault.  When I was at Ruth & Ollie's last weekend, I was admiring the cabinet (they have one at their store).  After I divulged the details of my saga, they informed me that a number of pieces they received were returned to the manufacturer Justin Camlin as well.  As I understand it, Justin Camlin moved their manufacturing site which caused some issues.

So here we are, mid February and no cabinet.  Furnitureland South expects to receive my shipment by the end of the month, but they are not sure when a delivery will be scheduled for Richmond.  If I don't have it in time for my son's first birthday party I will not be pleased.

Well, that's the drama behind my Covet du Jour.  Just look at the picture and you will understand why I am waiting with baited breath.

The cabinet is currently on sale at Horchow.

The hutch has an antiqued mirror back, 3 tempered glass shelves, and adjustable lights.  I love the fretwork and the fact that the sides are glass.  Additionally, it's available in many different finishes (I ordered it in white).

Please keep your fingers crossed for a speedy delivery!

Cheers!
Elizabeth
