On Display

I've been married seven years and have yet to preserve my dress.  My cousin Lauren asked if I watched Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.  I never missed an episode.  How could I overlook Adrienne Maloof's wedding dress displayed in her "closet"?  What a fabulous idea.  If I had endless amounts of square footage and money I would seriously consider framing my wedding dress.  Ms. Maloof's taste is more opulent than mine, but I am simpatico with regards to this.

A Tiffany State of Mind

This weekend will be fantastic, because we are visiting my cousin and her husband. In our family any gathering requires cocktails, conversation and cuisine, non of which are done in moderation.  This weekend will be no exception.  They will prepare delicious meals, we will overindulge in spirits, then gab about topics which are likely to leave us with moral hangovers.

The trip will be absolutely lovely as usual.  However, if it was just us girls we would have an extravagant jaunt. To our dismay our husbands, the voices of reason, bring us back to reality.  We are not even allowed to bring each other hostess gifts anymore.  Can you imagine?

On to my CDJ's - Yesterday's post left me craving a little Holly Golightly glamour.  Dahling, humor me and peruse my musings...

Shoe Inspired Space

Looking for design inspiration is part of my daily routine; it's a natural habit that fuels my creativity.    Recently a reader asked how I translate an inspiration piece into a design scheme.  I'll use this fabulous pair of Christian Louboutin shoes as an example.

If a client came to me with this shoe in hand I would presume she has a taste for the finer things in life, she values quality, she is not afraid to make a statement and she loves glamour.   Then, of course, I would listen to her ideas and desires.

So how does that translate into interior design?  I would suggest using the inspirational shoe as a design scheme for a more intimate space - perhaps a dressing room or boudoir.  Below are some images that provided me with further inspiration.

Designer Lisa Sterio's Home

This is what I envision:

Imagine walls papered in Romo's Ondina

This chaise lounge upholstered in chartreuse velvet similar to these chairs
Hang this mirror somewhere (the red squares could represent CL's signature red soled shoes.)

An over-the-top statement chandelier, such as this

Black lacquer cabinetry, with a few built-in mirrors, reminiscent of this

This search did not lead to the stool/chair I imagine, but the seat, along with the ceiling, would be cloaked in shades of magenta.   Additionally, I picture a fantastic mirror hanging over the built-in vanity, flanked by a killer pair of sconces.  Once I come across these pieces, I will be sure to update this post.

You get the gist of inspirational interpretation, right?  Whether this meets your tastes or not, I hope I provided a little bit of insight.

Cheers!

Foyer Design Board

One of the supplementary benefits of Covet du Jour are the decorating opportunities presented to me.  Working in the design world has always been a dream, but now it seems attainable.  Here is a foyer design board I am working on.  The following are the inspiration.

Bear Hill Interiors

The lamp sits on the acrylic console and the sunburst mirror hangs above.  The two stools pushed under the table.  On the other wall is the love seat with the Union Jack pillow.  The rug in the center of the space, under the teardrop chandelier.

This painting is going to hang above the love seat.  There is back and forth regarding which sconce to use.  Which sconce do you prefer - brass with the back shade or nickle with the white shade?

The furnishings for the space fit into the $2,000 budget, with not much to spare.  We were thinking wallpaper, but may roll-up our sleeves and stencil the foyer.  Possibly the stencil below in a neutral (or metallic) tone on tone.

"Office Space"

It's ironic that I fancy myself a "writer" yet have no dedicated writing space (in this case "writer" is used rather liberally.  Do blogging and writing stories for my kids qualify me?).  Back to the point; I have no official office.  I've tried writing at my desk and the dining room table with little success.  The one place where ideas and words are guaranteed... a huge leather chair in my family room.  Go figure.

This is where the magic happens.

The newest addition to the room are these silk panels.  The color is fantastic, but I would like to add some trim to kick it up a notch.  The search has commenced, but no contenders as of yet.

Please excuse the photo quality.  They look great when I upload to my computer, but grainy when I upload to my blog.  Fixing this bug is on my to-do list. If you click on the photo the image quality is better.

Cheers!
